Approximately 160 (25%) of 650 species present in the flora of our country, including medicinal plants (including medicinal plants), are grown in the Black Sea Region. However, the most exported products in terms of value and amount are produced in the Aegean Region. About 191 of the spice plants grown in our country have been exported at various times, and 100 of the 350 spice plants that are traded in the world are currently exported from our country, albeit in very small quantities. Our country is an important exporter of cumin, thyme and laurel. Turkey has 40% of world exports thyme.

Turkey’s Aegean region of the fertile soil and grows spontaneously in nature, mostly thyme, bay leaf, cumin, sumac alongside lime and sage, rosemary, red pepper, black pepper, coriander, and fennel Cumin exports are made.
Turkey exports of spices in the world in the last 5 years has maintained its 2% share. In 2011, the spices sector, which exports $ 76 million with Turkey, in 2015 this figure increased to $ 127 million, increasing 67% level.
Due to the pandemic (global epidemic) that has emerged in the world in the last 1 year, the importance of spices in human health has come to the fore once again.
